Mahmoud Dolatabadi
(Born on August 1, 1941 in Sabzevar)
The author is from Iran. The ten-volume novel “Kalidar” is his most famous work. Some of Dolatabadi’s works have been translated and published in several Western and Eastern languages. Most of the stories in Dolatabadi’s writings take place in the villages of Khorasan and narrate the suffering and hardship of the villagers in eastern Iran. Mahmoud Dolatabadi has also written several plays and screenplays. He also has a background in acting for famous directors such as Abbas Javanmard, Bahram Beizaei, and Dariush Mehrjui in theater and cinema, and has adapted several films from Dolatabadi’s works. Dolatabadi was awarded the Swiss Jan Michalski Literary Prize in 2013. In 2014, the French Ambassador to Tehran presented Mahmoud Dolatabadi with the Chevalier de l’Art et des Lettres de France award. In 2020, Mahmoud Dolatabadi collaborated with the project by writing and reciting a piece called “Soldier (Half-Burnt Putins)” for the global Art of Peace project, with music and arrangement by Mehran Alirezaei.
