Loris Haikazi cheknavarian
(Born on October 11, 1937 in Borujerd)
He is an Iranian composer, conductor, writer, and painter of Armenian descent; he is one of the well-known cultural figures of Iran and Armenia.
As a composer, Tcheknavarian has composed more than 75 works, including 6 operas, 5 symphonies, 1 oratorio, 1 requiem, works in the fields of choral music, chamber music, ballet, piano and vocal music, as well as concertos for piano, violin, guitar, cello and pipa, in addition to film scores. He has released over 100 works with labels such as: RCA, Philips, Emmy and ASV have released his works. Tcheknavarian has conducted many of the world’s major orchestras, including the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of England, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Tcheknavarian conducted the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra between 1989 and 1998 and 1999 and 2000, and lived mostly in Armenia. In October 2019, Loris Tcheknavarian was nominated as Iran’s Ambassador of Peace to the United Nations.
