The first stamp of Iran

The oldest official stamp of Iran, known as the Bagheri stamp, was issued during the reign of Nasser al-Din Shah Qajar in 1247 AH (1868 AD). The design of this stamp is a lion and a sun, placed inside a circle, and in its four corners the price of each stamp is written in Persian.

 

The world’s first stamp

The Penny Black is known as the world’s first postage stamp to be used in the public postal system. The Penny Black was first printed in Britain on 1 May 1840 and issued on 6 May of that year.
